I highly recommend using stick-on letters or decals or whatever those are, rather than scrawling on the walls in felt-tip as the previous tenants in my apartment did. Hand-graffitied is definitely lacking in class, but the photo actually looks nice!
Decals! The only answer, given my writing. There are so many possibilities for wall decoration these days - even whole wall stickers so you could say, stick on a headboard, or put a gigantic tree on one wall.
